Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane, commonly called D5 or cyclopentasiloxane, is used as a volatile silicone carrier, processing intermediate, spreading aid, and raw material for producing silicone polymers.

D4 in silicone refers to octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, a cyclic siloxane composed of four alternating silicon and oxygen atoms. Each silicon atom carries two methyl groups.

Common low-molecular-weight linear methylsiloxanes include hexamethyldisiloxane, octamethyltrisiloxane, decamethyltetrasiloxane, dodecamethylpentasiloxane, and tetradecamethylhexasiloxane.
