Molykote 7 - Food Grade Silicone Release Agent & Sealant for O-Rings & Valves

Molykote 7 Release Compound is a translucent white, grease-like silicone paste designed as a versatile, heat-stable release agent and lubricant. It is highly effective for use with plastics, rubber, metals, and adhesives and is certified safe for food contact and potable water applications.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

Molykote 7 Release Compound is an NLGI Grade 1 dimethyl-silicone grease thickened with silica filler. It is formulated as a food-grade release and lubrication compound for plastics, rubber, and metal interfaces. The compound operates within a service temperature range of -40 °C to 204 °C and complies with FDA 21 CFR 175.300 and NSF Standard 61 requirements for food contact and potable water applications.

key features

  • Wide Temp Stability - Molykote 7 keeps an NLGI 1 grease body usable from -40°C to 204°C, supporting thermal cycling without drip or run-off in typical service. The silicone base resists oxidation and consistency change, helping maintain film presence after repeated heat-up and cool-down events.

  • Food & Water Compliance - Molykote 7 is suitable for regulated use under FDA 21 CFR 175.300 for indirect food contact and is listed to NSF Standard 61 for potable water components. These compliance targets support specifying the same compound across food equipment and drinking-water sealing points.

  • Moisture Washout Control - Molykote 7 resists water exposure and cleaning splash, keeping lubrication in place where washdown is frequent. The silicone grease does not emulsify like many hydrocarbon greases, helping maintain a stable boundary layer and reducing relube frequency in wet zones.

  • Release Film Uniformity - Molykote 7 spreads into a thin, even release layer on plastics, rubber, metals, and many adhesives. The NLGI 1 consistency supports controlled laydown by wipe or brush, reducing sticking, surface scuffing, and part-to-tool transfer during repeated cycles.

  • Material Compatibility - Molykote 7 is formulated to be chemically inert with most plastics and elastomers used for seals and housings. It supports mixed-material interfaces without attacking common silicone rubbers and many engineering plastics, helping control swelling risk on sensitive compounds.

application
  • Mold Release - Apply Molykote 7 as a very thin wipe film on clean cavity and core surfaces, then remove excess so only a light sheen remains. Reapply after a defined number of shots based on sticking trend; the -40°C to 204°C range supports cold start and heated tooling in production.

  • O-Ring Assembly - Coat Molykote 7 lightly on O-rings and grooves before insertion to cut installation friction and prevent twist. Use a uniform smear, not a packed bead, to avoid hydraulic lock and squeeze-out. For potable water parts, specify the NSF 61 listing to match compliance needs.

  • Valve Lubrication - Brush Molykote 7 onto valve stems, seals, and sliding faces to reduce operating torque and chatter. Keep film thin to limit debris pickup while maintaining lubrication under splash and humidity. The NLGI 1 body supports staying on vertical surfaces in service.

  • Cable Pulling - Wipe Molykote 7 along the cable jacket in a thin layer prior to conduit installation to lower insertion force and reduce jacket abrasion. Add more at bends and long pulls as needed, keeping coverage even. Silicone lubrication remains stable from -40°C to 204°C in field use.

  • Packaging Machines - Apply Molykote 7 on contact points where film or product tends to drag, using a wipe-on micro film to prevent buildup. Maintain a controlled amount to avoid contamination while improving release. FDA 21 CFR 175.300 suitability supports food packaging line specifications.
