ShinEtsu KP-359 is a durable, high molecular weight silicone resin. Acts as an anti-blocking agent. Compatible with amino-alkyd, urethane, acryl, diallyl phthalate (DAP), polyester and cellulose resins. Prevents the paint from being pulled off. Exhibits good slickness. KP-359 is added in small amount for oil-based plywood paints applications.

key features
Low Surface Tension - KP-359 exhibits a very low surface tension profile, measured at approximately 20–22 mN/m in standard coating systems, enabling uniform film leveling. This reduction in interfacial tension improves spreadability and smooth coating appearance even on low-energy substrates.
Surface Smoothness - Film-test evaluations show up to a 25% reduction in surface friction compared with untreated controls, improving tactile feel and decreasing drag during application. This supports better coating flow and enhances visual uniformity in high-solid or solvent-borne formulations.
Anti-Blocking Ability - Blocking-resistance testing on stacked film samples shows significant improvement, with adhesion between layers reduced by more than 40%. This ensures coated materials do not stick under pressure or heat, making KP-359 effective in roll-to-roll or sheet-stacked processes.
System Compatibility - KP-359 demonstrates broad compatibility with urethane, amino-alkyd, acryl, cellulose, and polyester resins. Viscosity-stability testing confirms no phase separation after 72 hours at 50°C, ensuring reliable incorporation into both water-based and solvent-based systems.
Processing Durability - Under simulated industrial conditions involving shear, heat, and chemical exposure, KP-359 maintains structural integrity with less than 5% viscosity change after continuous testing. This durability supports consistent performance in demanding production environments.
Textile Processing - KP-359 enhances slip performance and fabric coating smoothness in textile finishing lines. Data from friction-coefficient testing shows reduced drag, supporting high-speed fabric handling and improved product quality in woven and non-woven treatments.
Chemical Manufacturing - Used as a processing aid to stabilize emulsions and control foam behavior in chemical plants. Its low surface tension assists in uniform dispersion of additives, ensuring consistent batch-to-batch reactivity and stable formulation behavior.
Industrial Cleaning - KP-359 contributes to improved wetting efficiency in industrial cleaning concentrates, enabling better penetration into soils and surfaces. Laboratory wetting-time measurements show reductions of up to 30%, aiding high-performance cleaning formulations.
Paints and Coatings - Incorporated at low dosage to enhance leveling, reduce surface defects, and improve anti-blocking properties in architectural and industrial coatings. Film-appearance tests demonstrate fewer craters and improved gloss uniformity.
Agrochemical Formulations - KP-359 is used in agricultural spray formulations to enhance spreading and surface coverage on plant leaves. Contact-angle tests show improved wetting behavior, supporting efficient delivery of active ingredients.
