Dowsil Sylgard-184 - Elastomer Encapsulant Flame Resistance for Led Lighting

This silicone rubber cures in the temperature range of 25°C~150°C, without exothermic phenomenon, and no secondary curing is required. After the curing process is completed, it can be used immediately in the temperature range of -45°C~200°C.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

Dowsil Sylgard-184 is a two-component liquid silicone elastomer composed of a base and curing agent, mixed in a 10:1 ratio to form a transparent, tough elastomer. It cures at room temperature or under heated conditions, resulting in a material with excellent flexibility and high transparency, facilitating visualization of internal components. The material exhibits excellent flowability and provides reliable electrical insulation and mechanical protection, making it suitable for potting and encapsulating electronic and electrical components, enhancing safety and durability.

key features

  • Excellent Flowability - Sylgard-184 has a low base viscosity of approximately 3.5 Pa·s, maintaining excellent flowability even at 25°C. This property ensures rapid penetration into complex device gaps and crevices, ensuring uniform and complete encapsulation and preventing voids caused by poor encapsulation, thereby enhancing the long-term stability and safety of components.

  • Wide Temperature Range - The product maintains stable physical and electrical properties over a wide temperature range of -45°C to 200°C. After high- and low-temperature cycling testing, the material's volume resistivity remains above 10^14 Ω·cm. This property enables its use in both extremely cold and high-temperature environments, ensuring reliable operation of electronic devices under harsh conditions.

  • Excellent Electrical Insulation - After curing, Sylgard-184 exhibits excellent electrical insulation properties, with a breakdown strength of up to 20 kV/mm. Electrical performance testing demonstrates that the material effectively prevents leakage and short circuits, a key factor in ensuring the stable operation of electrical equipment.

  • Cure Flexibility - This material fully cures within 48 hours at room temperature, but can also be rapidly cured under heat, reducing the curing time to just a few hours. By adjusting the curing temperature, users can flexibly control production schedules to accommodate varying process requirements, improving production efficiency and shortening lead times.

  • High Transparency - Cured Sylgard-184 exhibits exceptional transparency, with a light transmittance exceeding 90%. This allows for easy visualization of the device's internal state even after potting, facilitating subsequent inspection and maintenance. Furthermore, this transparency ensures stable light transmission in optical or LED applications without compromising performance.

  • Stable Mixing Ratio - Sylgard-184's base liquid and curing agent are mixed in a strict 10:1 ratio, with a tolerance of less than ±2%. This ensures a uniform curing reaction and consistent properties in the final elastomer. Users can achieve consistent material properties during operation, avoiding issues such as reduced mechanical properties or incomplete cure caused by ratio deviations.

application
  • LED and Lighting Industry - In LED lamp packaging, Sylgard-184's high transparency and excellent temperature resistance ensure stable luminous flux output. Experiments show that LED lamp beads encapsulated with this material have a light attenuation rate of less than 5% after 1000 hours of operation at 85°C and 85% humidity, significantly improving the reliability and service life of lighting products.

  • Power Supply and Energy Systems - In power modules and new energy devices, Sylgard-184 can be used as a potting material to protect circuit boards and power devices. Test data shows that after 72 hours of continuous operation at 200°C, the material's electrical insulation properties remain stable, eliminating the risks of arcing and short circuits, thereby effectively improving the safety and long-term durability of energy systems.

  • Sensor Manufacturing - Various sensors require extremely high sealing and stability. The elastomer formed by curing Sylgard-184 resists moisture and dust intrusion, maintaining sensor sensitivity. Environmental testing shows that after 500 hours of operation at 95% humidity, the sensor's signal error is less than 2%, demonstrating its excellent protection for precision components.

  • Industrial Control Equipment - This product provides reliable insulation and impact resistance in the potting of industrial control devices, ensuring stable operation in high-vibration or high-voltage environments. Application data shows that industrial modules encapsulated with Sylgard-184 have a 30% improvement in impact resistance and an average service life of over 20%.

  • Solar Energy and Photovoltaics - Photovoltaic modules require materials with UV resistance and high transparency. Sylgard-184 performed exceptionally well in outdoor accelerated aging tests, maintaining a transmittance of over 88% after 1000 hours of UV exposure. It provides continuous protection and light transmission for photovoltaic modules, ensuring efficient power generation from the panels.
