MOLYKOTE® D-6927 Anti-Friction coating is a dispersion of solid lubricants in an organic resin-solvent system that forms a dry, dark gray film when heat-cured. It is formulated for application by spray and the recommended dry film thickness is 10-20 microns. This coating is valued for providing lifetime, clean lubrication without aging or oxidation, which makes it ideal for inaccessible parts in dirty or dusty environments. It can operate effectively in a temperature range of -50°C to 300°C (-58°F to 572°F) and is resistant to the erosion of oil, solvents and other chemicals.

key features
Hard Dry Film - Molykote D-6927 forms a heat-cured dry film with a measured pencil hardness of 3H, supporting strong surface integrity on moving contacts where soft coatings can polish away quickly; the cured layer is designed to remain intact under repeated rubbing and handling, helping keep friction behavior stable during assembly and in service.
Low Wear Loss - Molykote D-6927 demonstrates very low wear in laboratory ring-on-plate evaluation, with a reported wear depth of 1.3 µm, indicating controlled material removal under sliding contact; this low wear value supports extended service life for low to medium load interfaces where dimensional stability and smooth motion are required.
Wide Temp Window - Molykote D-6927 operates across a broad service temperature range of -60 °C to 240 °C, allowing the cured film to maintain lubricity from cold-start conditions through elevated operating heat; this temperature window helps protect parts that see thermal cycling, reducing the risk of stick-slip changes as temperature varies.
Controlled Film Build - Molykote D-6927 is designed for repeatable coating thickness control, with a recommended dry film thickness of 10–20 µm, supporting consistent torque, noise, and movement feel across production batches; controlled film build also helps minimize tolerance stack issues on precision assemblies that cannot accept thick lubricating layers.
Defined Cure Point - Molykote D-6927 uses a defined cure temperature of 230 °C to convert the applied coating into a durable dry lubricating film; maintaining this cure setpoint supports consistent adhesion and mechanical strength of the film, helping reduce variation between parts when coating is applied by spray in volume production.
Chemical Exposure Hold - Molykote D-6927 is specified to resist oils, solvents, and industrial chemicals, supporting film stability where parts may contact fuel residues, cleaning agents, or lubricating oils during assembly or operation; combined with the 3H hardness and 1.3 µm wear depth result, this resistance helps keep the dry film functional after repeated exposure cycles.
Safety Belt Parts - Molykote D-6927 is applied to safety belt mechanism contact points where clean, dry lubrication is needed; degrease and dry the substrate, spray Molykote D-6927 to target a 10–20 µm dry film, then cure to a 230 °C process setpoint so the film stabilizes; the -60 °C to 240 °C service range supports smooth motion across cold and hot cabin conditions.
Door Lock Systems - Molykote D-6927 is suitable for door and locking mechanisms where grease migration attracts dust; apply Molykote D-6927 by spray after cleaning, keep the film build within 10–20 µm to avoid tight-clearance interference, then cure at 230 °C to lock in a stable dry film; the cured 3H hardness supports handling and assembly without the film smearing.
AC Piston Use - Molykote D-6927 can be used on air-conditioner piston and sliding interfaces that need high wear resistance; prepare the surface, coat to 10–20 µm, then cure at 230 °C to form the dry film; the reported 1.3 µm wear depth result supports reduced wear growth over repeated cycles, helping maintain consistent motion and lowering the chance of sticking during load reversals.
Springs And Pins - Molykote D-6927 is applied on springs, pins, and washers where consistent friction is required and oiling is not preferred; spray Molykote D-6927 onto clean metal, control film thickness to 10–20 µm for repeatable fit, then cure at 230 °C; the -60 °C to 240 °C service window helps the dry film remain stable through thermal cycling and stop-start operation.
Conveyor Systems - Molykote D-6927 supports manufacturing machinery and conveyor components that run in dusty environments; remove oil and contaminants, apply Molykote D-6927 by spray to achieve a 10–20 µm dry film, then cure at 230 °C to obtain a durable, clean lubricating surface; the 3H hardness and low wear depth figure of 1.3 µm help reduce maintenance frequency where re-lubrication access is limited.
