MOLYKOTE® D-6900 Anti-Friction coating is a solvent-based, heat-curing dry film lubricant optimized for coil coating and screen printing applications on metal surfaces. This advanced AFC is NEP/NMP-free and prevents the welding (seizing) of metal-on-metal combinations at high temperatures, with functionality proven up to (600 °C) in applications with oxygen present, and lab tested higher in an inert atmosphere. It provides a durable coating that boasts high load-carrying capacity, excellent adhesion to metal, and strong resistance to motor oil, coolants, and acids.

key features
Extreme Heat Stability - Molykote D-6900 maintains functional lubrication at service temperatures up to 600 °C in air and up to 700 °C under inert conditions, as verified through controlled thermal exposure testing. This high-temperature capability allows the coating to remain stable without softening, burning, or decomposing, ensuring continuous anti-friction performance in exhaust-facing and combustion-adjacent components subjected to sustained thermal loads.
Anti-Welding Protection - Molykote D-6900 prevents metal welding and seizure during high-temperature sliding contact by forming a stable solid lubricating layer after curing. Laboratory friction testing confirms reduced adhesion and galling under metal-to-metal contact at elevated temperatures, significantly lowering the risk of component damage during assembly, operation, or disassembly in exhaust and gasket systems.
Chemical Resistance - Molykote D-6900 exhibits verified resistance to motor oils, coolants such as G13, and mild acidic environments, retaining film integrity after prolonged chemical exposure. This resistance supports stable lubrication in mixed chemical and thermal environments, where components are exposed simultaneously to heat, oil vapors, and cooling fluids without degradation of coating performance.
High Load Capacity - Designed for metal-to-metal sliding contacts under high surface pressure, Molykote D-6900 supports elevated contact loads without film breakdown. Load-bearing tests demonstrate that the cured coating sustains boundary lubrication conditions where liquid lubricants fail, providing reliable friction control in gasket interfaces and sliding assemblies subjected to compressive stress.
Micro-Sealing Effect - Molykote D-6900 delivers micro-sealing functionality by filling surface irregularities on metal gaskets after curing. This micro-sealing behavior contributes to improved gas tightness and surface conformity, supporting emission compliance requirements and enabling original equipment manufacturers to meet strict exhaust leakage and sealing performance targets.
Application Control - Molykote D-6900 is optimized for industrial coating methods such as coil coating and screen printing, with viscosity characteristics tailored for controlled film build. This allows precise application thickness and uniform coverage across gasket surfaces, enabling repeatable production results and consistent friction behavior after curing.
Exhaust Gaskets - Molykote D-6900 is applied to metal exhaust gaskets via screen printing or coil coating before heat curing, forming a dry lubricating and micro-sealing layer. This use prevents gasket seizure during high-temperature operation, reduces friction during assembly, and supports long-term sealing stability under exhaust temperatures exceeding 500 °C.
Sliding Contacts - Molykote D-6900 is used on metal-to-metal sliding contacts operating at slow to moderate speeds under high heat. After curing, the coating provides stable friction control and anti-welding protection, making it suitable for components that experience thermal expansion and mechanical stress during repeated heating cycles.
OEM Manufacturing - Molykote D-6900 is integrated into OEM production processes to enhance gasket and component performance for compliance with EURO 6 and future emission standards. The coating is applied prior to final assembly, ensuring consistent surface properties and reliable operation throughout the service life of exhaust-related components.
Engine Components - Molykote D-6900 is applied to selected engine-area metal parts exposed to elevated temperatures and chemical media. The cured coating protects against galling, reduces friction during thermal cycling, and maintains integrity in environments containing motor oil and coolant residues.
Industrial Gaskets - Molykote D-6900 is used on industrial metal gaskets requiring resistance to heat, chemicals, and mechanical stress. After curing, the coating supports anti-seizure behavior and stable friction performance in high-temperature industrial systems where standard lubricants cannot survive.
