MOLYKOTE® D-6600 is a heat-curing, yellowish, dry film lubricant composed of solid lubricants, organic binders, and organic solvents. It is engineered for the permanent, long-life lubrication of material pairings, including metal/metal and metal/plastic combinations. Unlike oil or grease lubricants, Molykote® D-6600 Anti-Friction Coating cures into a solid lubricating film that does not migrate, drip, or attract contamination. The cured film can operate within a temperature range of (-40 °C) to (+260 °C) ((-40 °F) to (+500 °F)). It is applied via standard processes like spraying or dipping and offers excellent wear protection, good adhesion to metals, and good corrosion protection.

key features
Wide Temp Range - The cured dry film operates across a service temperature range from −40 °C to 260 °C, allowing stable friction performance during cold starts and elevated operating temperatures. This temperature capability supports consistent lubrication behavior during thermal cycling without softening or breakdown, making it suitable for components exposed to fluctuating mechanical and environmental heat loads.
Dry Film Lubrication - After heat curing at 200 °C, the Molykote D-6600 forms a solid dry lubricating layer that eliminates oil migration and evaporation. This dry structure prevents dust adhesion and surface contamination, ensuring that lubrication performance remains stable over time without reapplication, even in enclosed or sensitive mechanical assemblies.
Material Compatibility - The formulation supports low friction operation for both metal-metal and metal-plastic contact pairs. This compatibility allows a single coating system to be used across mixed material interfaces, reducing wear and friction while maintaining consistent motion behavior under medium and low contact pressure conditions.
Wear Resistance - Long-term wear testing demonstrates that the cured film provides durable protection against surface abrasion, reducing direct contact between mating parts. This wear resistance extends component service life under repeated sliding and intermittent motion, especially where liquid lubricants cannot maintain a stable film.
Corrosion Protection - The cured Molykote® D-6600 Anti-Friction Coating provides measurable corrosion resistance on metallic substrates, helping protect surfaces from oxidation during storage and service. This protection supports long-term reliability in environments with humidity or intermittent moisture exposure, reducing the need for additional corrosion-preventive treatments.
Automotive Locks - Applied by spraying or dipping onto cleaned lock components before heat curing, the Molykote® D-6600 Anti-Friction Coating forms a dry lubricating film on pawls, levers, and latching plates. After curing, it supports smooth actuation without attracting dust or debris, maintaining reliable lock function throughout extended service intervals.
Starter Motors - Used on armature shafts, internal sliding components, and contact points, the Molykote® D-6600 coating is applied prior to assembly and cured to provide stable lubrication. This method supports reliable cold-start operation and reduces wear in starter motor components subjected to repeated start-stop cycles.
Seat Belt Systems - Applied to springs and moving interfaces in restraint mechanisms, the coating is cured to create a non-migrating lubricating surface. This approach ensures consistent movement and reduces noise while preventing lubricant transfer that could interfere with sensitive locking functions.
Stainless Fasteners - Used on stainless steel threaded connections, the coating is applied in a controlled layer and cured to support defined friction behavior. This allows consistent torque during assembly while reducing the risk of seizure and galling during tightening operations.
Window Regulators - Applied to metal-plastic sliding contacts within window lifting mechanisms, the Molykote® D-6600 Anti-Friction Coating provides dry lubrication after curing. This supports smooth window movement while reducing noise and friction, especially in enclosed door environments where grease contamination is undesirable.
