Molykote 41 is a black, non-melting silicone-based grease for extreme high-temperature bearing applications under moderate loads and speeds. This NLGI Grade 2 grease is thickened with carbon black and formulated with a high-quality silicone oil, providing superior thermal stability and oxidation resistance. It functions effectively from -18°C to 288°C and resists moisture and corrosive atmospheres, making it suitable where conventional greases melt or fail. It should not be used in highly loaded steel-on-steel sliding applications.

key features
Non-Melting Structure - MOLYKOTE® 41 Extreme High Temperature Grease is formulated with a non-melting thickener system and does not exhibit a conventional dropping point under prolonged thermal exposure. The grease retains its physical structure at operating temperatures up to 288°C, avoiding softening, oil bleed, or flow commonly observed in soap-thickened greases. This structural stability supports lubricant retention in bearing housings and contact zones during continuous high-temperature operation and thermal cycling.
High-Temperature Stability - MOLYKOTE 41 is designed for sustained operation across a service temperature range from –18°C to 288°C. The silicone base oil resists oxidation and thermal degradation at elevated temperatures, maintaining consistent lubrication performance without rapid hardening or volatility loss. This stability supports reliable bearing operation in high-temperature environments where conventional mineral-based greases degrade prematurely.
Oxidation Resistance - MOLYKOTE 41 exhibits strong resistance to oxidative breakdown under prolonged heat exposure. The silicone-based formulation maintains chemical integrity when subjected to elevated temperatures and oxygen-rich environments, reducing viscosity change and deposit formation. This oxidation resistance contributes to extended lubricant service life in applications involving continuous thermal stress and limited maintenance access.
Water Resistance - MOLYKOTE 41 provides effective resistance to water washout and moisture ingress, supporting lubrication stability in humid or steam-exposed environments. The grease maintains adhesion to metal surfaces under condensation, splash water, and cleaning processes. This property supports consistent lubrication performance in environments where moisture accelerates corrosion or lubricant displacement.
Controlled Load Capability - MOLYKOTE 41 is classified as NLGI Grade 2, providing stable consistency for moderate load and speed applications. The grease supports rolling and sliding contacts under controlled surface pressures while maintaining film stability. It is not intended for highly loaded steel-on-steel sliding contacts, but performs reliably in bearing systems where thermal stability and lubricant retention are primary requirements.
Oven Bearings - MOLYKOTE 41 is applied to rolling and plain bearings in industrial ovens operating at continuous temperatures up to 288°C. The grease is packed into bearing housings during assembly to maintain lubrication stability through prolonged heating cycles where relubrication access is limited and conventional greases soften or oxidize rapidly.
Kiln Conveyors - MOLYKOTE® 41 Extreme High Temperature Grease is used on conveyor bearings and support rollers in kiln systems exposed to radiant heat and slow rotational speeds. It is applied during scheduled maintenance to ensure lubrication retention during repeated thermal cycling, supporting consistent movement in high-temperature material handling environments.
Steam Controls - MOLYKOTE® 41 Extreme High Temperature Grease is applied to linkage joints and bearing points in steam turbine control mechanisms operating under combined heat and moisture. The grease is introduced at assembly interfaces to maintain lubrication presence during continuous exposure to elevated temperature and humidity conditions.
Power Insulators - MOLYKOTE 41 is used on ball-and-socket connections of power insulators exposed to high ambient temperatures. It is applied as a controlled layer during installation to support smooth articulation without oil migration that could interfere with insulation performance under thermal stress.
Industrial Boilers - MOLYKOTE 41 is applied to auxiliary bearings and mechanical joints in industrial boiler systems operating near heat sources. The grease is filled during assembly or overhaul to maintain lubrication integrity at temperatures approaching 288°C, supporting extended service intervals in high-heat environments.
