MOLYKOTE® 3400A LF Anti-Friction Coating

Molykote 3400A LF is a heat-cured anti-friction coating that offers superior lubrication and corrosion protection for metal surfaces. It is designed for applications with medium to heavy loads and resists degradation from oils, fuels, and solvents.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

MOLYKOTE® 3400A Anti-Friction coating LF is a solvent-based gray dry film lubricant with molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) and antimony trioxide as solid lubricants and an organic binder system. It requires heat curing (e.g., 30 minutes at 200°C) to form a tough, durable film. The cured coating offers long-lasting performance for metal-on-metal sliding contacts, providing excellent resistance to corrosion (over 500 hours in salt spray tests) and high resistance to various oils and fuels. It performs across a wide temperature range, from (-200 °C) to (+315 °C).

key features

  • Wide Temperature Range - MOLYKOTE 3400A maintains lubrication performance across a service temperature range from –200 °C to 315 °C, ensuring stable friction control in both cryogenic start-up conditions and sustained high-temperature operation after curing at 200 °C.

  • High Load Capacity - The MoS₂-based solid lubricant system supports contact pressures exceeding 250,000 kPa, allowing reliable lubrication under medium to heavy mechanical loads where oil films typically fail due to squeeze-out or thermal breakdown.

  • Strong Corrosion Resistance - The cured coating provides corrosion protection exceeding 500 hours in neutral salt spray testing, reducing red rust formation on steel components exposed to humidity, road salt, or industrial atmospheres.

  • Oil And Fuel Resistance - MOLYKOTE 3400A maintains adhesion and lubricity when exposed to oils, fuels, and solvents, with laboratory testing confirming no significant film degradation after prolonged hydrocarbon contact under under-hood automotive conditions.

  • Permanent Film Adhesion - After heat curing, the coating achieves strong adhesion to metal substrates with ISO adhesion ratings typically within Class 0–1, ensuring the dry film remains intact during repeated sliding and vibration cycles.

application
  • Automotive Brakes - In brake assemblies, MOLYKOTE 3400A is applied to pins, springs, and contact surfaces before curing, forming a dry lubricating layer that prevents seizure and maintains consistent movement under operating temperatures exceeding 200 °C.

  • Body Hinges And Linkages - For hinges, locks, and ventilation mechanisms, the coating is applied as a thin film and heat cured to deliver long-term lubrication that resists dust accumulation and moisture ingress common in exterior vehicle components.

  • Threaded Fasteners - On bolts and threaded connections, MOLYKOTE 3400A is applied during assembly to reduce friction variability, helping achieve consistent tightening torque and preventing galling during installation and future disassembly.

  • Aerospace Components - In aerospace hinges and servo mechanisms, the dry film is applied at controlled thickness to provide low-friction movement without lubricant migration, supporting reliable operation across extreme temperature ranges.

  • Industrial Equipment - For heavy-duty hinges, cams, and sleeve bearings in industrial machinery, MOLYKOTE 3400A is applied during manufacturing and cured to provide maintenance-free lubrication in dirty or corrosive operating environments.
