MOLYKOTE® 106 Anti-Friction Coating (AFC) is a solvent-based, dark gray dry film lubricant that uses molybdenum disulfide and graphite as solid lubricants in an organic binder system. It is applied by spraying, dipping, centrifuging, or brushing and requires heat curing (e.g., 60 minutes at 150°C) to form a durable, low-friction film. The cured film provides excellent long-lasting lubrication and corrosion protection for highly stressed metal-on-metal friction combinations, particularly those operating at low speeds or with oscillating movements. It performs effectively across a wide temperature range from (-70 °C) to (+250 °C).

• Wide Temperature Range - Molykote 106 maintains stable lubrication performance across a service temperature range from –70 °C to 250 °C, verified in thermal cycling tests without film cracking or loss of adhesion, allowing reliable operation in both low-temperature start-ups and sustained high-heat conditions after curing at 150 °C for approximately 60 minutes.

  
  

• Low Friction Control - The cured dry film exhibits a typical friction coefficient of 0.05–0.10 under metal-to-metal boundary lubrication conditions, reducing stick-slip behavior and ensuring smooth motion during low-speed or oscillating operation where liquid lubricants often fail.

• Corrosion Protection - The dry film forms a continuous protective barrier on metal surfaces, demonstrating corrosion resistance of more than 96 hours in salt spray testing, reducing oxidation risk in humid or chemically aggressive operating environments.

• Lock Mechanisms - In lock assemblies, Molykote 106 anti friction coating is applied by spraying or brushing onto internal metal contact surfaces before heat curing, creating a dry lubricating layer that maintains consistent actuation force and prevents dust accumulation associated with oil-based lubricants during long-term use.

  
  

• Engine Components - During engine or gearbox assembly, the coating is applied to sliding or contact surfaces and cured to provide anti-seizure protection capable of withstanding operating temperatures above 200 °C, supporting reliable run-in behavior and reducing wear during cold starts.

  
  

• Magnetic Armatures - For electromagnetic armatures, Molykote 106 is applied in thin layers of approximately 5–10 μm, delivering low and stable friction without lubricant migration that could interfere with magnetic performance or contaminate coils.

  
  

• Oscillating Joints - On oscillating joints and linkages, the cured dry film remains in place under small-angle motion, avoiding lubricant pump-out and extending service intervals by up to three times compared with conventional oil lubrication in slow-moving mechanisms.

  
  

• High-Stress Metal Parts - In heavily loaded components with limited access for relubrication, Molykote 106 anti friction coating is applied during assembly and heat cured to create a permanent lubrication layer that maintains friction control and wear protection throughout the component’s service life.
