ShinEtsu KF-99 - Methyl Hydrogen Silicone Oil for Industrial Processing

KF-99 is produced by replacing some of the methyl radicals of dimethyl silicone fluid with hydrogen.A clear coating with good water repellency, mold releasebility, and lubricity is obtained by baking this product onto the surface of various materials.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

KF-99 is a colorless, transparent dimethyl silicone fluid with excellent fluidity and wettability. It is often used in industrial surface treatment processes requiring high long-term stability. It enhances the surface hydrophobicity of materials such as glass, metal, ceramics, and textiles, improving their water and stain resistance. It also enhances fluidity and dispersibility in powder manufacturing.

key features

  • Hydrophobicity - KF-99 possesses extremely strong hydrophobic properties, with a viscosity of 20 mm²/s at 25°C. It forms a durable hydrophobic layer on glass or ceramic surfaces. Standard contact angle testing shows a water contact angle on glass exceeding 105°, representing over 40% improvement in water repellency compared to untreated substrates.

  • Temperature Resistance - KF-99 maintains stable performance over an ambient temperature range of -73°C to 180°C, exhibiting no loss of fluidity at low temperatures and no rapid volatilization or decomposition at high temperatures. With a flash point exceeding 100°C and a pour point as low as -73°C, it remains chemically inert and maintains viscosity stability even under alternating high and low temperature conditions.

  • Sealing - Due to its low volatility and high surface tension adjustment capabilities, KF-99 forms a continuous and uniform sealing layer at joints and interfaces. Under dynamic pressure testing, its seal retention rate exceeds 95%, effectively blocking air and moisture penetration, ensuring excellent stability of equipment or materials under complex conditions.

  • Mold Release Performance - The thin film formed by KF-99 on the mold surface effectively reduces adhesion of molded parts to the mold. Comparative experiments show that the release force of resin products on metal molds treated with KF-99 decreased by approximately 35%, significantly improving production efficiency and reducing mold wear.

  • Chemical Stability - KF-99 is highly chemically inert and exhibits virtually no reaction to dilute acid or alkaline solutions. After immersion in 10% NaOH or 20% H₂SO₄ solutions for 72 hours, its viscosity changed by less than 5%, demonstrating excellent chemical resistance. Furthermore, its specific gravity is close to 1, allowing it to evenly bond to various surfaces without damaging the substrate.

application
  • Cosmetics - KF-99 can be used as a lubricant and skin feel enhancer in cosmetic formulations. Due to its strong hydrophobic properties, it forms a thin protective layer on the skin's surface, reducing water evaporation and enhancing moisturizing effects. Adding 1%-2% of KF-99 to foundation and sunscreen significantly improves spreadability and even application, enhancing comfort while maintaining breathability without clogging pores.

  • Textiles and Leather - KF-99 is widely used in textile and leather finishing processes to enhance fabric water repellency and stain resistance. Through impregnation or spraying, it increases the water contact angle on fabric surfaces by 30%-40%, maintaining excellent water repellency even after repeated washings. This property helps textiles better meet the needs of outdoor, protective, and high-end clothing.

  • Construction and Building Materials - KF-99 can be used as a waterproofing and sealing agent for the surface treatment of concrete, stone, and ceramics. Experiments have shown that concrete samples treated with KF-99 reduce water absorption by over 50%, significantly enhancing its resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and extending the material's lifespan. This makes it highly valuable for applications in tunnels, bridges, and exterior wall projects.

  • Paper and Packaging - In the paper and packaging industry, KF-99 can be used for paper coating, imparting excellent water-repellent and anti-adhesive properties. Actual application data shows that packaging paper treated with KF-99 exhibits a 25% increase in stiffness retention at 85% humidity, preventing structural deformation and strength loss caused by moisture and ensuring packaging stability during storage and transportation.

  • Ceramics and Glass - KF-99 is commonly used for surface treatment of ceramics and glass, improving the finish's stain resistance and cleanability. In tests, treated ceramic tiles showed a 45% reduction in residual oil stains and significantly improved cleaning efficiency. This property is particularly suitable for use in high-end glass products, protective ceramics, and laboratory consumables, enhancing durability and user experience.
