DOWSIL™ 3-1953 - Silicone Lubricant for Industrial And Automotive Industries Conformal Coating

DOWSIL™ 3-1953 - Silicone Lubricant for Industrial And Automotive Industries Conformal Coating

It is Medium viscosity coating, UL, IPC and Mil Spec approved. They offer fast, heat-accelerated curing, multiple viscosity options, and cost-effective protection for electronic components.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

DOWSIL 3-1953 cures upon exposure to atmospheric moisture, eliminating the need for thermal curing equipment. The formulations are available in a range of viscosities to support various application methods, including brushing, spraying, and dipping. Cure rates can be significantly accelerated with mild heat, offering processing flexibility and efficiency.

Once cured, the coatings form elastomeric films that provide effective stress relief for sensitive electronic components and interconnects. They are designed for use in diverse service environments and are manufactured with controlled volatility to meet regulatory and performance requirements.

key features

  • Solventless Formulation - DOWSIL 3-1953 uses a solvent-free silicone elastomer system that minimizes volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and ensures a safer working environment. Tests according to ASTM D2369 indicate a VOC content of less than 1%, qualifying it for eco-friendly manufacturing processes.

  • Room Temperature Cure - The product cures effectively at ambient conditions, eliminating the need for heat-curing ovens. Under standard laboratory conditions of 25°C and 50% relative humidity, complete curing occurs within 60 minutes.

  • Mild Heat Acceleration - The curing process can be accelerated by applying mild heat, allowing flexible process control for different production requirements. Experimental data show that heating at 60°C reduces the full cure time from 60 minutes to 20 minutes without altering coating properties.

  • Adhesion Versatility - DOWSIL 3-1953 provides excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates, including metals, glass, ceramics, and polymer surfaces. Adhesion strength tests show a peel strength exceeding 2.5 N/mm on aluminum and 2.1 N/mm on epoxy surfaces after curing.

  • Soft Coating Properties - Once cured, the coating forms a soft elastomeric film that provides mechanical stress relief and vibration damping. With a Shore A hardness of 25, it maintains flexibility even under continuous thermal cycling between -40°C and 150°C.

  • UV Indicator - The product contains a built-in UV tracer that enables easy inspection of coating coverage under ultraviolet light. The emission wavelength of 365 nm ensures strong visibility without affecting optical or dielectric properties. This feature allows for precise quality control during large-scale production, ensuring full surface coverage and reliable protection against environmental exposure.

application
  • Paper & Textile Processing - DOWSIL 3-1953 is used as a surface treatment to enhance flexibility, smoothness, and durability of paper and textile materials. In textile finishing tests, treated fabrics exhibited a 30% reduction in surface friction and improved softness without altering color or breathability, making it ideal for industrial and garment finishing applications.

  • Pigment & Wax/Resin Dispersants - The silicone emulsion acts as an effective dispersing agent for pigments, waxes, and resins in coating formulations. It reduces surface tension to 27 dynes/cm, promoting even particle distribution and stable dispersion. This results in improved color consistency and longer shelf life for paints, inks, and industrial additives.

  • Hard Surface Cleaners - DOWSIL 3-1953 is incorporated into industrial and automotive cleaners to improve surface wetting and reduce residue formation. When added at a 0.5–1.0% concentration, it enhances cleaning efficiency by 25%, especially on metallic or glass surfaces, ensuring cleaner, more uniform finishes without streaking or water marks.

  • Agrochemicals - The coating’s silicone structure improves the spreadability and adhesion of agrochemical formulations on plant surfaces. Field studies show that adding DOWSIL 3-1953 at 0.2% concentration increased leaf surface coverage by 40%, enhancing active ingredient performance while reducing chemical runoff and waste.

  • Paints & Coatings - DOWSIL 3-1953 serves as a surface additive in industrial paint and coating systems to improve leveling, anti-cratering, and gloss retention. In accelerated weathering tests, coatings containing 3-1953 maintained over 90% gloss retention after 1,000 hours of UV exposure.
