ShinEtsu KF-96-5cs - Dimethicone Silicone Oil for Cold Media Use

KF-96-5cs withstand low temperatures well and maintains flowability even at -65°C.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

Shin-Etsu KF96 dimethyl silicone oil is colorless, odorless, and non-toxic. It is physiologically inert, chemically stable, and weather-resistant. It has a wide viscosity range, a low freezing point, a high flash point, good hydrophobicity, and shear resistance. It can be used for a long time in the temperature range of -50℃-180℃. It is the most representative product of silicone oil.

key features

  • High Temperature Resistance - KF-96-5cs exhibits excellent heat stability, maintaining its performance at 180°C for extended periods. Its flash point exceeds 90°C, ensuring resistance to volatilization and decomposition under heat. In thermal oxidation tests, the product maintained viscosity at 150°C for 500 hours, showing less than 8% change in viscosity. This demonstrates its ability to maintain stable physical properties at high temperatures, making it suitable for applications requiring prolonged exposure to heat.

  • Low Temperature Resistance - KF-96-5cs exhibits excellent low-temperature fluidity, maintaining good flowability at -65°C without crystallization or hardening. Low-temperature testing results show that viscosity variation at -60°C is within ±10%, ensuring reliability in harsh environments.

  • Stable Viscosity - KF-96-5cs exhibits minimal viscosity fluctuations across various temperatures. Its viscosity at 25°C is approximately 5 mm²/s, and remains around 4.5 mm²/s at 100°C. This excellent viscosity stability ensures consistent lubrication and transfer performance even under wide temperature fluctuations, extending equipment life and improving reliability.

  • Chemically Stable - KF-96-5cs is virtually unaffected by common chemicals. At room temperature, it resists alkalis up to 10% and acids up to 30% without sacrificing performance. With a specific gravity of approximately 0.915, it exhibits no reaction with metals, plastics, or rubber under varying chemical conditions.

  • Low Surface Energy - KF-96-5cs has a surface tension significantly lower than that of water and conventional synthetic oils. Its surface tension is approximately 40% lower than that of water, resulting in superior wetting and spreading. This characteristic not only improves coating and lubrication uniformity, but also enhances release properties, reduces residue in molds and surface treatments, and ensures efficient production and clean surfaces.

application
  • Cosmetics - KF-96-5cs is widely used in cosmetic formulations, particularly in skincare and haircare products. Its low viscosity and surface tension ensure excellent spreadability on the skin or hair without leaving a greasy feel. Experimental data shows that adding 1%-3% KF-96-5cs to lotions and creams significantly improves product spreadability and comfort.

  • Electrical Insulation - KF-96-5cs exhibits excellent insulation properties in electrical and electronic applications, protecting components from moisture and dust. Its volume resistivity remains above 10⁴ Ω·cm, and its electrical breakdown strength reaches 20 kV/mm, ensuring safe operation under high-voltage conditions. Long-term use tests have shown that KF-96-5cs can extend device life by over 30% when used to protect electronic components. It is particularly suitable for high-reliability electrical applications such as sensors, control systems, and high-voltage components.
