ShinEtsu KE-41-W – Neutral Cure Silicone Sealant for Weather‑Resistant Construction Applications

A one‑part neutral cure silicone sealant designed for weather‑resistant construction and industrial sealing.
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

KE-41 is a one-part neutral cure RTV silicone sealant formulated for room-temperature sealing where low odor and stable handling are required. It is supplied as a ready-to-use paste with controlled extrusion and smooth tooling behavior, allowing users to apply consistent beads without mixing or special preparation. During curing, KE-41 reacts gradually with ambient moisture and develops into an elastic rubber, providing a predictable working experience and steady cure progression suitable for routine installation and maintenance tasks.

key features

  • Neutral Cure - KE-41 uses a neutral curing system that avoids acidic by-products during crosslinking. In standard laboratory exposure tests, corrosion on common metals such as aluminum and steel remains below 0.1 percent mass change after 7 days. Low odor levels during cure improve on-site handling conditions and support use in enclosed or occupied environments.

  • Weather Stability - After full cure, KE-41 demonstrates strong resistance to outdoor exposure. Accelerated weathering tests typically show retention of more than 80 percent of tensile strength after 1,000 hours of UV exposure. This stability supports long-term performance under sunlight, rain, and temperature variation.

  • Moisture Barrier - KE-41 forms a dense silicone network that limits water penetration. Typical water absorption remains below 0.5 percent by weight after 24 hours of immersion at room temperature. This performance helps maintain sealing integrity and mechanical stability in humid or moisture-exposed conditions.

  • Adhesion Strength - KE-41 develops reliable adhesion to substrates such as glass, ceramics, and metals. Typical tensile adhesion strength ranges from 0.7 to 1.1 MPa under standard test conditions. This bonding capability supports stable joint performance under static loads and moderate movement.

  • Elastic Retention - The cured elastomer maintains flexibility over extended service life. Typical elongation at break exceeds 250 percent, while Shore A hardness commonly falls between 20 and 30. These values support joint movement accommodation without cracking or loss of sealing continuity.

application
  • Construction Joints - KE-41 is used for sealing building joints such as window frames and curtain wall interfaces. Joint widths of 4 to 12 mm can cure evenly under normal ambient conditions. The cured sealant maintains flexibility during thermal expansion and contraction cycles common in building structures.

  • Electronics Sealing - In electronics-related sealing tasks, KE-41 is applied to protect enclosures from moisture ingress. After curing, silicone layers typically exhibit volume resistivity above 1 × 10¹³ Ω·cm. This electrical stability supports moisture protection for non-heat-sensitive electronic housings.

  • Automotive Sealing - KE-41 is suitable for weather-resistant sealing in automotive assemblies. The cured elastomer typically operates across a service temperature range from −40 °C to 180 °C. This range supports stable sealing performance under common vehicle operating conditions.

  • Industrial Equipment - KE-41 is applied to seal panels, housings, and interfaces in industrial equipment. Its paste consistency allows controlled application on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Predictable curing behavior supports consistent sealing quality during assembly and maintenance.

  • General Sealing - KE-41 is used for general-purpose sealing tasks where long-term flexibility and environmental resistance are required. Controlled flow and steady cure progression support repeatable results across different working environments. This reliability helps reduce rework and maintenance frequency.
