DOWSIL™ 736 – Silicone Sealant for Industrial Assembly And Heat-Resistant Bonding

Non-slumping sealant designed for sealing and bonding applications exposed to temperatures as high as 315°C (600°F)
PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION

DOWSIL™ 736 is a one-component, high-performance silicone sealant designed for bonding and sealing applications that must endure extreme heat. It features a non-slumping paste texture, ensuring precise application on both vertical and horizontal surfaces without sagging. Upon curing, it forms a flexible yet durable silicone rubber layer that maintains integrity under thermal expansion and mechanical stress.

key features

  • Non-Slumping Consistency - DOWSIL™ 736 maintains a stable paste form during application, ensuring no flow or sagging on vertical or inclined surfaces. Tested under ASTM C639 standards, the product demonstrates a flow rate of less than 3 mm, proving its suitability for overhead and sidewall use. This property guarantees uniform seal thickness and clean joint formation. The consistency also enhances control during dispensing, allowing accurate bead placement in precision manufacturing lines.

  • High Heat Resistance - The sealant withstands continuous exposure to 260°C and intermittent peaks of 315°C without structural degradation. Thermal aging tests confirm less than 8% tensile loss after 1,000 hours at 260°C, indicating outstanding retention of elasticity and mechanical integrity. Its cured silicone rubber layer maintains a Shore A hardness of 26, ensuring flexibility while resisting cracking or hardening even under prolonged heat cycles.

  • Fast Cure and Strong Bond - DOWSIL™ 736 exhibits a tack-free time of 17 minutes at 25°C with 50% relative humidity, allowing efficient workflow and quick handling in production environments. Its cured structure provides tensile strength above 2.0 MPa and specific gravity of 1.04, ensuring robust adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics, and heat-resistant plastics. The combination of fast cure kinetics and strong bonding strength enables durable joints that resist vibration and thermal expansion.

application
  • Automotive Manufacturing - DOWSIL™ 736 is used for bonding and sealing exhaust systems, engine components, and turbocharger housings where high temperature resistance is crucial. The product maintains consistent adhesion even after exposure to 315°C, reducing maintenance intervals and ensuring leak-free assembly.

  • Industrial Equipment - Applied in machinery requiring high-heat sealing such as furnaces, compressors, and heat exchangers. The silicone’s stable mechanical properties prevent gasket deterioration and maintain airtight performance after continuous operation under elevated temperatures.

  • Appliance Production - Utilized in ovens, heating elements, and drying units to ensure safe, long-lasting seals. Its red color allows easy visual inspection of coverage, while the 450,000 mPa·s viscosity supports precise application during automated assembly.

  • Aerospace Systems - Used in gasketing and insulation of engine housings and airframe parts subjected to temperature fluctuations. The material’s elasticity and resilience prevent joint separation under vibration and extreme cold-to-heat transitions.

  • Electronics Sealing - Employed in protecting sensors, circuits, and connectors exposed to thermal stress. The dielectric strength above 500 V/mil ensures stable insulation, safeguarding sensitive electronic components against overheating and electrical leakage.

  • Conveyor and Oven Belts - Ideal for sealing moving belt joints and high-temperature conveyors in industrial baking or curing lines. The silicone’s non-slumping property ensures strong adhesion to flexible substrates, maintaining sealing reliability under dynamic mechanical motion and thermal cycling.
