DOWSIL 3165 is a one-part moisture-cure silicone that cures at room temperature in 30–80% humidity, eliminating the need for ovens. It enables fast handling within 10–120 minutes and reaches over 90% of its final properties in 24–72 hours. The adhesive cures from the surface inward and is not suited for deep-section applications. Mild heat below 60°C can accelerate processing. Once cured, it maintains stable physical and electrical properties across a wide temperature range, enhancing the reliability of PCB assemblies. UL 94 recognition applies based on minimum thickness.

key features
Non-Flowing Consistency - DOWSIL™ 3165 maintains its shape after application, ensuring consistent bead formation even on vertical or overhead surfaces. According to ASTM C639 flow testing, its movement under gravity is less than 3 mm, confirming its stability during pre-cure handling. This rheological control enables precise dispensing, reduces cleanup, and ensures uniform layer thickness, which is essential for applications requiring consistent gap filling.
Fast Surface Cure - The adhesive achieves a tack-free state within 10–20 minutes at 25°C and 50% relative humidity, verified through ISO 9046 measurement. This quick surface curing allows faster processing and handling, significantly improving throughput in automated or manual assembly lines. The fast film formation also minimizes contamination risk before full cure, ensuring a clean and uniform bond surface.
High Green Strength - DOWSIL 3165 provides strong initial adhesion before complete curing, allowing early assembly movement without displacement. Shear strength testing shows a green bond strength of 0.6 MPa after 30 minutes, ensuring stability during the early curing phase. This feature is particularly beneficial for production environments requiring quick part repositioning and rapid transfer to subsequent processes.
Flame Resistance - The cured silicone meets UL 94V-0 flammability standards, achieving self-extinguishing behavior within 10 seconds and limiting flame spread to less than 10 mm. This performance has been validated under standard vertical burn testing, ensuring safety compliance in electronic and industrial equipment. The low smoke density also enhances its suitability for high-safety assembly lines.
Single-Component Efficiency - The one-part formulation eliminates the need for on-site mixing, reducing preparation time and operator error. Its extrusion rate of 212 g/min enables smooth and consistent dispensing, improving productivity in automated applications. The consistent composition ensures reliable curing across multiple batches and simplifies inventory management for manufacturers.
Room Temperature Cure - DOWSIL 3165 cures efficiently in 30–80% relative humidity without heat, reaching 90% of its physical strength within 24–72 hours. Thermal acceleration at 60°C can further shorten full cure to under 24 hours. This energy-efficient curing process supports environmentally responsible production and reduces overall equipment costs.
Automotive Manufacturing - DOWSIL 3165 is used for formed-in-place gaskets and sealing metal-to-plastic components in vehicles. Its vibration resistance and UL 94V-0 flame rating provide dependable long-term performance under engine heat and chassis vibration, improving safety and durability in automotive systems.
Electronics Assembly - Applied in sealing printed circuit boards, sensors, and modules, it prevents moisture ingress and dielectric failure. The adhesive’s consistent insulation and rapid surface cure enhance the reliability of PCB and connector assemblies exposed to thermal and electrical cycling.
Railway Systems - Approved for EN 45545-2 flame resistance, DOWSIL 3165 provides secure bonding for components used in rail transport. Its self-extinguishing properties and mechanical stability ensure long-term safety under vibration and continuous thermal exposure, meeting transportation safety requirements.
Appliance Manufacturing - Used for sealing and bonding components in home and industrial appliances where different materials must be joined. The strong adhesion to plastics and metals, combined with high temperature resistance, ensures product longevity in high-humidity or high-heat conditions.
Industrial Equipment - Ideal for bonding and sealing electronic housings, control boxes, and enclosures. The product’s non-sag texture and fast cure allow efficient vertical application and dependable environmental protection, maintaining seal integrity during machinery operation and temperature fluctuations.
